The CBI is today calling on the Chancellor to make the housing market the central plank of this month's Budget. The Confederation of British Industry is controversially calling for NewBuy to be extended to second-steppers with limited or negative equity, saying this would free up homes for first-time buyers.

Boosting homebuilding should be the main goal of George Osborne's forthcoming Budget, according to the business lobby group, the CBI. It said that 50,000 new affordable homes should be built at a cost of £1.25bn, which would create 75,000 jobs. Tax incentives should be provided to encourage the refurbishment of existing properties, the CBI added.

Capital to spare? Then you have almost certainly considered buying to let. It is as popular today as it was in the heady years leading up to the credit crunch. But if it was controversial then, it is even more of a thorny issue now.

London property ? the ultimate investment? - Telegraph

"It is the strength of demand from overseas buyers that has driven up prices in central London boroughs and underpin this market," said Lindsay Cuthill, the head of Savills Fulham. "Prime areas - like Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith, Camden and Fulham - have a relatively low correlation with the rest of London, let alone the rest of the country, suggesting they really are in a world of their own."

The human mind has this uncanny ability to hear when someone's spinning a line before it has even registered the words, especially on the radio. I was reminded of this on Tuesday, when Andrew Johnson, cabinet member for housing at Hammersmith and Fulham council, went on Nick Ferrari's breakfast show to tell the listeners of LBC about their new five-year local connection rule.
